Raising a Caucasian Shepherd puppy in the first 9 months of life

Caucasian Shepherd puppy

The first months of life are very important for the Caucasian Shepherd, as in this period the puppy receives the first vaccines, the primary teeth are replaced by the permanent ones and the puppy gets the first training lessons, building character. There are several important characteristics you should consider when raising a Caucasian Shepherd puppy.

The inadaptability to large cities is a genetic feature of the Caucasian Shepherd. Unlike the Alsatian, Rottweiler, Doberman breeds, the Caucasian Shepherd finds it hard to adapt to the noisy environment, to cars or populated neighborhoods. The puppies are sensitive and can become irritable to strong sounds, that is why it is advisable for you to gradually familiarize them and provide protection.

By their nature, they are aggressive, powerful dogs, but a simple firecracker thrown at their feet could change their psychic forever. More than that, don’t forget that a puppy of only 5 months can scare the hell out of an adult.

The Caucasian Shepherd loves living outdoors, running and enjoying a generous space. If you raise it indoors, be aware that the puppy needs space and movement. A puppy needs to be walked at least 90 minutes a day and at the age of 5-7 months, walks need to be more frequent and longer.

As far as feeding a puppy in the first months of life is concerned, it is recommended you consult a specialist to make the best choices. A balanced diet is important to maintain your dog healthily and active. Most of the times, insufficient food or, on the contrary, too much food interferes with the puppy’s development and education, leading to health issues starting with the first months of life. The basic development of a Caucasian Shepherd and its behavior are usually shaped between 1 to 7 months so that it is essential to give the puppy increased attention in this period. A healthy diet means sufficient proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and microelements.
